The Bad Side of Cahuita and Cabinas Alegebra

After our stuff was stolen we were told by the hostel owners that to file a police report we would need to go to Limon for a few days to get it processed and by then our laptop would be gone forever. They didn't call the police for us and so we asked around town if anyone knew who was selling one of these because we wanted to buy it back. I would not recommend anyone else take this course of action ever again.

We found a local guy who was willing to help us find it back and after multiple taxi rides back and forth to multiple peoples houses we started to feel like we were being set up a bit and they were just trying to get money for their taxi driver friends. But that night he apparently found the guy. A simple situation of offering to buy it back quickly turned complicated when his step dad got involved and didn't want him to get money for more drugs so he called the cops on his own son. Naturally when cops are called any offer to buy it back went out the window. He would have been a fool to show us the laptop then. We had no chance of getting any of our stuff back now. We had offered our middle man some money that he would get "AFTER we got our stuff back" which he agreed to but when the boy refused to give it back he demanded money anyways which our hostel owners paid him to get him to leave and then charged us on our bill! We didn't agree to any of that but got stuck paying it.
